It’s true that there are plenty of different computer manufacturing brands, but for the average user, there are only two choices for operating systems: Mac OS vs. Windows. Linux is also out there, but that is usually only chosen by people with advanced computer skills or businesses. When it is time to pick your next computer, you’ll want to be able to look closely at both Mac and Windows systems and we’ll share some of the advantages of each of them in the following paragraphs.
The main advantage of Windows based computers for the average user is price. It is absolutely easier to afford a Windows based computer than it is to buy a Mac based computer. Whether you are buying a laptop or a desktop, you should be able to save hundreds of dollars by selecting a PC instead of a Mac. This means that if you don’t have a lot of tech experience and only want your computer for basic things like web surfing, email and watching videos, it makes more sense to buy a Windows OS PC. You might still have reasons for preferring Mac, such as its design and ease of use, but you will definitely have to pay more for it. When all you want is a PC that is easy to afford, however, Windows OS computers are definitely the best way to go.
If you follow what happens in technical news, you have probably started to hear things about the next major upgrade to the Windows OS: Windows 8. For some users, this will be the clincher in the Windows Vs. Mac debate because Windows is promising that the new release is going to be packed with some radical new features. Windows 8′s biggest advantage over Mac is that it will afford users the ability to use their computers like they would use tablets because it will have a highly functional touchscreen. There are also going to be some options for choosing traditional keyboards and mouses. Obviously, at the time of this article’s writing, Windows 8 was still something people could only look forward to. The earliest release date we can find is sometime in 2012. And by the time that date rolls around, Mac will have developed something to give it a run for its money.
What is important about a computer is taking care of your needs, but it is a good idea to get a computer that looks good to you. However, many people prefer the look of a Mac over most PCs. Apple has always put a lot of effort into designing products that are attractive and ergonomic as well as high functioning. Many brands have tried to keep their costs down, but attractive looks are important with Apple, and their designs. With a little effort, you can find what appeals to you in nicely designed, Windows-based computers. When you are looking for a computer to buy, there are most important factors to think about than the look or design, but its okay to find one that you like how it looks.
There are a lot of reasons that you may prefer Windows or Mac OS. We’ve looked at some of the basics (budget, preferences, needs, etc) and benefits of both so that, hopefully, you’ll have an easier time choosing between them. Depending on the way you’ll be using your computer, how much you want to spend and what type of design and interface you prefer, you may end up liking either Mac or Windows OS better.
